About me

I am the current Chair of Wessex Astronomical Society, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, and the founder of Bournemouth-based Skyhigh Astronomy. My background is in geology, and for a number of years I worked in the Australian outback managing gold and iron-ore exploration projects. In my spare time I volunteered at the Perth Observatory, in addition to hosting a number of outreach events for local schools.

Currently, I run stargazing and astronomy activities at a number of locations across Southern England. I have appeared on BBC Radio Solent, and am a regular contributor to stargazing pages published within local magazines. I also give talks on a range of astronomy topics, including some that involve a variety of tactile and Braille objects suitable for visually impaired attendees.

I am a Visiting Fellow at Bournemouth University, and work closely with Dr. Fabio Silva on the fascinating subject of Skyscape Archaeology (previously known as Archaeoastronomy). We have recently collaborated to produce a planetarium show, which was first presented to the public during English Heritage’s Festival of Neolithic Ideas held at Stonehenge in November 2023.

I also work part-time for The Science Zone, which specializes in providing mobile planetarium science shows to schools across the UK.
